Eduardo Portal, conductor

Return to the RPO and critical acclaim

14th, June 2015

"His style, though, while fluid and expansive, has an appealing tautness, and the RPO's mercurial response to his detailed direction ensured bite and drama", said the review at the Classical Source about Eduardo's conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on the 22nd May at Cadogan Hall, London.

The first half included Liszt Les Preludes and Ravel Piano concerto in G, with Javier Perianes as soloist. About this piece the reviewer praised "Portal's intuitive enabling of a chamber-like elision between soloist and orchestra". And also said: "What a poetic, witty and subtle performance this was".

The second half consisted of Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade, about which it was written: "Portal was entirely convincing in shaping its [...] programme".

In addition to this, three more concerts were performed at Croydon, Reading and High Wycombe, with Natalie Clein featuring as soloist for Dvorak Cello concerto. A live BBC recording was broadcasted on the 27th May 2015.

Future appearances of Eduardo with the RPO will take place in October and November 2015 in London (Cadogan Hall), Croydon and Aylesbury.
